An Analysis of the Episcopal/Anglican situation

Friends -

It has been noted here before some striking parallels between the struggles within ABC-USA and within The Episcopal Church. I've just read a transcript of a set of addresses given by Dr. Kendall Harmon; you can find them posted at http://www.standfirmfaith.com.

The first address, http://www.standfirminfaith.com/index.p ... icle/8457/, in the first 2/3 Dr. Harmon lays out two 'narratives' framing their situation; one the 'standard' American-centric narrative, the other placing the conflict in the context of the rise of the global south (he even suggests that making Gene Robinson a bishop was a deliberate act in the face of the global south of the Anglican Communion). In the last 1/3 he looks at Jeremiah as a model of what to expect in a time of God's judgement on His people/institutions. I found this to be good stuff, well worth taking your time reading. (Art J., would love to hear your comments on this.)

The second address, http://www.standfirminfaith.com/index.p ... icle/8488/, continues on Jeremiah, then critiques the various factions in the Episcopal situation. Dr. Harmon makes a point of the need to maintain ties/relationships in spite of disagreements over choices of strategy.

The last address, http://www.standfirminfaith.com/index.p ... icle/8506/, has a question and answer session.
