Folks, with all my ranting, pouting, and sometimes joking, the fact still remains I love the ABC. I have deep kinships on the East; the Midwest; and on the West. Nothing pains me more than seeing a dying system. Whether a church, a region, or a denominational headquarters, all these need life and vitality. Abe Lincoln quoted the Master saying a “house divided itself cannot stand”. This is true
OK kids, I know we have been through this 100 times but: Is there anyway for a denomination to reconcile the Welcoming and Affirming and Welcoming and Transforming camps (as well as the “don’t ask/don’t tell” middle too? I’m not just talking about the ABCUSA; I’m talking about any denomination. What does it take to have harmony among these 3 factions? Is peace possible or is the issue to strong like slavery/civil rights?
Is there another denomination that has found peace and unity? The Baptist piece is a little tricky. Though churches are autonomous, some regions act like a diocese no matter what slant they lean. If a region is hyper-affirming or hyper-transforming, is it possible for 2 regions could grow within some region? Can some regions over time develop their own Avignon?
Is this a dead hoarse or is this bronco still kicking?
