“Gunman Kills 5, Wounds 16, Commits Suicide.”
The headline was all too familiar. Then I saw the name of the school: Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. I watched the TV pan across the site of the shooting, and recognized my daughter’s dorm adjacent to the building where the violence was unleashed. While she had finished her Master’s there last year and was long gone, it still took my breath away.
I won’t go through a litany on violence or attempt an analysis, but simply ask you to pray. There are, no doubt, churches among us who have sons and daughters at NIU. Especially pray for our campus ministry there (Dwight & Rene Gorbold are the Campus Ministers). And two churches: First Baptist of DeKalb (Joseph Sanders is the Pastor) and New Hope Missionary Church (Leroy Mitchell is the Pastor). Leroy is also an administrator at NIU and a former GRR Board member.
