Ottawa University

Postby ehart on Fri Nov 14, 2008 2:20 am

My son has just been accepted at Ottawa University and awarded $4,750.00 per semester for the first two semesters.

While this is all great and wonderful, other than applying for more scholarships and financial aid through Ottawa, are there other places I should be looking?

This is his first choice for a college, he has top grades, but we haven't seen his ACTs yet.

Art, he's the little, quiet one--though they have all grown quite a bit since you've seen them.

colleges

Might I suggest my own alma mater, Ouachita Baptist University? It is a SBC school in Arkansas and they offer quite a few substantials scholarships as well, especially if the SAT/ACT scores are good. I don't know your son's areas of interest, but Ouachita has an exceptionally strong music school as well as great programs in education, business, communications, and ministry. I'm sure their sciences, sports, and other programs are quality too. They were not my strengths or interests so I don't know as much about them. The relationship between faculty and students was one the the best things about the place.

Oh, I would also suggest Judson College, or Judson University now, in Elgin, IL. Our church has had about 8-10 people attend over the years, most recent with degrees in architecture, and all have had great experiences. I know several others whose children have attended and everyone gives great reviews. The connections with the college seem to continue way beyond graduation and impact ministry for years to come. President Jerry Cain is awesome!

Thanks for the suggestions Cindy. I think he's really stuck on Ottawa right now though. He's been there to camp and so is familiar with the campus.

He spent the day yesterday and today applying for scholarships. We'll also put in for grants and other financial aid in February or March (when I get the taxes done). If it doesn't work out, he may have to go here to the local community college and get some credits toward the degree that way. He's indicated Secondary Education as his major. His ACTs were 22 and that's only taking them once.
