Rick Warren--Obama's Invocation

Postby chip on Tue Jan 06, 2009 9:24 pm

Seems like President Elect Obama will have Pastor Rick Warren give the invocation at his inauguration. The far left and far right are in a lather. I had a good, initial reaction to it. I was worried the sky would fall when Barak Obama came into office. It is exciting to have a black president; I’m just lamenting he has among the most liberal records in the Senate. For me the Warren prayer was just a small bone he could throw to guys like me. I now wonder if he actually can walk among both sides of the aisle; (that’s kind of easy when you have majorities in the both branches).

He is catching flack for Warren but is sticking to his guns. It's an easy decision to stick to though--good for him. I'm more surprised how much he ran on “change” yet pads his administration with dinosaurific, Clinton-machine leftovers. Hillary??? Leon Panetta???? Gimmee a break. Yeah, m-hm, that's change. T'will be an interesting 4 (8?) years. But hey, thanks President Elect Obama for an evangelical invocation. I look forward to bigger bones chucked my way throughout this long, arduous hidden-tax-filled presidency. Call me an optimist.

Hi Chip,
I just finished reading the audacity of hope and I suspect on some levels you have reason for optimism. Obama is going to be a pragmatist. While I rue his ideals, I look for him to find things that are practical.
Also, on the door Obama will go through for the inauguration (according to worldnetdaily.com) there is a prayer of dedication and thanks that Obama is being installed as God's agent... or something to that effect.
My take is that we are in for such a wild ride that Obama will in the end just be holding on. How tightly will be interesting to find out. Painful maybe too.
love

Chip the change he spoke of was from republican to democrate!! Both in the White House and in the congress!! I will not say more about the changes I fear are forthcoming from this administration.

Gotchya Ralph. I think you’re right about changing Republican dominated government. All that "change we can believe in" talk was going on during the Clinton/Obama debates. Arguing over "yes we can/yes we will"--like the Lite Beer commercials--"less filling/tastes great!" I assumed it was about the past which includes the Clinton Machine.

I was watching some of the pre-inauguration festivities and was impressed with Obama helping paint group homes. As a self-proclaimed bleeding-heart conservative, I do think this is good, timely symbolism. I truly do pray he inspires people to pull together and help others. I just hope we are creating opportunities for those helped to become independent and not dependant on a system. More and more entitlements are not the answer. I hope the reality is as great as all our perceptions. (Call me a pessimist).
