The Mitford Bedside Companion: A Treasury of Favorite Mitford Moments, Author Reflections on the Bestselling Series, and More. Much More

Edited by Brenda Furman

c. 2006

This is the best book of the Mitford books. If I were going to buy one (which I might) and only one, this would be the one.

The thing is, you can’t truly understand or appreciate this book until and unless you have read all the others.

This is the book you savor Mitford with. The others you can devour and gobble up like a Thanksgiving Feast. This book, however, is the pie later. The piece of pie and coffee you have by the fire while you talk about all the good times of holidays past.

In this book, you will find the moments you never want to forget and some you already forgot. You will also find Jan Karon’s explanations as to her favorites and how they came to be (her characters aren’t created–they find her and demand to be dealt with) and what they have taught her along the way.

Pictures of Jan Karon and her sister, Brenda Furman along with other relatives and drawings of Father Tim and Cynthia are included in the work as well.

An absolute must for Mitford fans but should probably be bought rather than borrowed.
